The Challenge/Opportunity:

Many students lack access to career pathways outside traditional college routes, especially in trades. We will better prepare them for the workforce.

 

SOLUTION

  • Launch the “SMART STEPS” initiative to address the root causes of school performance issues.

  • Promote out-of-school programs and job opportunities for students.

  • Collaborate with the City School District to improve school safety, and after-school programs.

  • Gather input from teachers and school leaders to improve recruitment and retention.

 

LONG TERM GOAL

  • - Create a unified vision for education that prepares students for both college and careers, with a renewed focus on skilled trades, manufacturing, and technology. This will enable us to take advantage of what is being developed in the capital region.

  • - Create a pathway to higher education, and to steady employment for tradespeople in Albany.
