The Challenge/Opportunity

Violent crime and property crimes are too common. Many neighborhoods feel unsafe. We have fewer police officers, and recruitment has been slow. We need action.

 

SOLUTION

  • Establish a community policing plan that connects people to police.

  • Incentivize qualified local applicants through expanded pensions, training and housing opportunities.

  • Prioritize resources that focus on historically neglected areas.

  • Work with county and state public safety professionals to provide both short and long-term solutions for vulnerable neighborhoods and residents.

 

LONG TERM GOAL

Create a safer city through prevention, intervention, and enforcement.

  • Strengthen the police department and community policing while investing in all neighborhoods.
